Eleva Chamber Players Tango Music This Weekend

Eleva Chamber Players Scent of a Tango

Eleva Chamber Players will present two performances this weekend entitled “Scent of a Tango, ” a night of Latin inspired music. The first performance is Saturday, November 5,  7:30 pm, at the Waterbury Congregational Church on North Main Street. A second performance will be held the next day at the Barre VT First Church Universalist. Rudolph Golez, an award wining pianist from the Philippines, will be featured at both performances, along with other notable musicians from the New England area. One hour before each event, there will be a tango demonstration by Gerd Hirschmann of Tango Vermont.

Waterbury is having a Harvest Fest on Saturday, October 8, with one-time, commemorative bottled beer sales by The  Alchemist Pub and Brewery plus a street festival. On Sunday, October 9, Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury VT is holding their popular Dog Fest on the grounds of the Stephen Huneck’s Dog Mountain gallery and dog chapel.

You could start the weekend at the Waitsfield Farmers Market, Waterbury Flea Market on Route 2 north of town, the Route 100 Glassblowers Open Studio, the British Invasion car show in Stowe, and the Green Mountain Camera silent auction on Sunday at the Green Mountain Club on Route 100 in Waterbury. And there is always hiking, canoeing at the Waterbury Reservoir, fishing, antiquing, Ben & Jerry’s factory tour, Cabot Cheese store (free samples), Lake Champlain Chocolate store, Danforth Pewter, Cold Hollow Cider Mill,  fine dining. Post Irene Status: Waterbury is Open!

With all the media stories about the damage from tropical storm Irene, some might think Vermont has washed away. It’s not true of course. Most of the state was affected a little or not at all. The roads and bridges hardest hit, mainly in southern VT, have reopened already or will be soon. The new roads are gravel instead of pavement but they are open and passable. And driving at slower speeds will making scenic touring easier at a more relaxed pace. Waterbury had flooding in some downtown basements and at ground level but most businesses are open and being enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. Waterbury Tourism Council President Laura Parette and innkeeper Greg Trulson put together a video about the area and local businesses:
